Size Matters 2005

Aesthetic Aspiration

A research project to determine the aesthetic aspirations & bodily perceptions of British women.

50 women were randomly selected & asked to state their ‘ideal’ or preferable body size, using the standard European size index— 10, 12, 14, 16. They were then requested to wear a compression belt that would temporarily emboss this information into their skin.

Of the 50 female participants, only two believed their actual size to be their ‘ideal’ —the remaining 48 aspiring to be a size smaller or larger— with a size 10 being the most desirable overall.
